Design Palestine’s mission is to strengthen and uplift Palestinian communities through sustainable urban development and innovative design, led by local architects, engineers, and designers. By collaborating with US teams, we aim to exchange knowledge, mentor emerging talent, and build projects that uphold the integrity of Palestinian culture, needs, and identity. Together, we seek to create resilient communities and foster a new generation of creative leaders driving meaningful change.

We work to create a collaborative platform that empowers Palestinian designers, architects, and engineers to lead sustainable, community-centered development, while fostering innovation and mutual learning between Palestinian and US teams to inspire transformative change for future generations.

Our Goals

  1. Capacity Building and Collaborative Development: Foster a platform for Palestinian and US teams to collaborate on urban development, architecture, engineering, and design projects that respond to local needs while integrating global expertise. These collaborative efforts will help strengthen the skills of Palestinian designers, engineers and architects by providing mentorship, knowledge exchange, and professional development opportunities.
  2. Integrity and Sustainability through Community-Driven Solutions: Develop projects rooted in the voices and needs of Palestinian communities, ensuring sustainable, culturally relevant, and impactful outcomes based on social and environmental contexts.
  3. Innovation  and Knowledge Exchange: Encourage the exchange of creative ideas, methodologies, and technological innovations between Palestinian and US teams to push boundaries in design and problem-solving.

We operate as a part of 1for3.org, a Palestinian run non-profit with over 20 years of experience working in the West Bank.

OUR PROJECTS

Olive Grove Competition

The Olive Grove Park at the UN-administered Aida and  Al Azza refugee camps in Bethlehem is being transformed with the help of Design Palestine and participating students in the West Bank and abroad. Teams recently participated in a competition to design portions of the park which are currently uner construction.

Zahrat Al-Yasmeen Play Yard

Designed and built in a 4 month period, the design for the play yard involved converting a paved courtyard into a flexible, shaded play space with custom-built hills and structures, new planting beds for environmental education and permeable rubber tiles. The majority of the design and construction team were from the Aida Refugee Camp and materials were sourced in the West Bank. Photos by Shiraz Omar and Mejd Azzeh

Women's Workshop

The women’s Workshop at the Lajee Cultural Center will be a resource for nearby women to use for preparing and selling food and local, handmade items. The new street-fronting kitchen is designed to invite guests in to purchase items and/or participate in workshops.

Health for Palestine Clinic

Currently under construction, the H4P health clinic will be a home base for community health workers who work with Health for Palestine in Bethlehem.
